Treatment Options
At the office of John B. Witte, DDS, PC, we understand the unique type of care that children’s dentistry requires. In addition to performing standard dental procedures, we know that all of our newer patients need to learn the importance of preventative dental care. Our dedicated team works closely with our patients to make sure they are educated for a lifetime of healthy smiles!
Standard Procedures
Even with excellent oral hygiene, occasional dental procedures are sometimes necessary. Let our experienced team handle your child’s next dental procedure. Our gentle approach ensures that your child will feel calm and comfortable throughout their visit. We can take care of any of the following treatments:
- Fluoride – In just a few minutes, our staff can apply a cavity-preventing fluoride treatment to protect your child’s teeth for months.
- Fillings – Our office utilizes composite fillings, which is a tooth-colored material. Dr. Witte will attempt to place a filling in a decayed tooth, but if the amount of tooth structure affected by the decay is too large, it may be necessary to place a stainless steel crown on a primary (baby) tooth. Most permanent teeth are able to be restored with a composite filling.
- Sealants – Protect your child’s teeth from tooth decay for 3 – 5 years with just one application.
- Space Maintenance – If your child loses a tooth early, it’s crucial for the space to stay open as adult teeth grow in. We’ll find the smartest orthodontic solution for your child’s case.
- Extraction – Occasionally, unhealthy baby teeth can put the rest of your child’s smile at risk. Extractions are typically fast and simple, and we’ll work with you to find a method of sedation that makes you and your child feel the most comfortable.
- Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy/Crowns – We will determine the best course of treatment to treat an infected or decayed tooth until your child’s permanent teeth grow in.
- Dental Abscesses – Abscesses can occur when a cavity goes untreated, spreading infection. Whether an extraction or root canal is necessary, we’ll determine the safest route to protect your child’s teeth.
- Dr. Witte will visit with you to discuss the most comfortable and safe way to complete treatment on your child. Our office utilizes oral conscious sedation on most children, and IV sedation is available for patients with more extensive treatment needs or children who are more anxious and fearful. We will carefully plan the right type of treatment to make sure your child is as relaxed as possible.
Preventative Care
Pediatric dentistry is all about preventative care. The office of John B. Witte, DDS, PC, has worked with children since 1984, so we know just how important it is to teach good oral hygiene habits at a young age. Our team of professionals will work with your child at every visit to make sure they’re treating their teeth with proper care in a way that is simple to understand. Let us help with:
Regular Checkups – We will make sure you and your child know when you’re due for a regular checkup.
Digital X-Rays – This low-radiation method of x-raying ensures your child can easily see how their teeth are growing.
Sports Dentistry – We will help athletic little ones find the best mouth protection for their sport, or treat them in the case of any sports-related accidents.
Thumb-sucking – Thumb sucking starts at an early age and can cause long-term damage to tooth alignment and mouth growth. We’ll work with you and your child to find a positive, encouraging way to prevent thumb-sucking.
Teeth-grinding – Many children grow out of teeth grinding as their mouths grow, but if we notice any wearing in your teenage child’s enamel, we may recommend a night guard to prevent further damage.
